It has been said that it is not the strongest that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most adaptable to change. We're not breeding for the perfect hunt on a perfect day — we're breeding for the dog that looks at a changing horizon and knows exactly what to do next.
Ground one
Ruffed Grouse, Upper Peninsula
The popple's so thick you'll lose the dog at ten feet. You're not watching a point — you're listening for the woods to go quiet. When it does, you go in blind, branches in your face, trusting a dog you can't see to hold a bird you can't see either.
Ground two
Sharpies & Huns, Western Prairie
A sharpie will pick you off from a quarter mile out. You're not just covering ground — you're using the terrain to hide your movement, trusting a dog's nose and the wind as a compass, until the alert goes off and you're the one catching up.
The foundation
Proven in the field before the whelping box.
No dog joins our breeding program just because of paper. Every dog here has to earn it before ever being bred, hunting real wild birds in real cover across real miles, and retrieving them to hand through land and water. Our foundation ties back to Mike Johnson at Black Point Gundogs, a friend and mentor whose lines are among the most respected in the Northwoods, and ones we're proud to help carry forward.
